What is Triptorelin?
Triptorelin is a synthetic decapeptide agonist of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), with D-Trp substitution at position 6 conferring greater GnRH receptor affinity and proteolytic resistance compared to native GnRH. Continuous or high-frequency exposure produces receptor downregulation and pituitary desensitisation, suppressing LH/FSH secretion and downstream gonadal steroidogenesis. Used as a pharmacological HPG axis suppression tool and GnRH receptor pharmacology reference compound. Research use only.
Research Applications
HPG Axis Suppression
LH/FSH downregulation, pituitary desensitisation, gonadotropin washout kinetics
GnRH Receptor Pharmacology
Receptor binding affinity vs native GnRH, internalisation, downregulation dynamics
Testosterone/Estrogen Suppression
Castrate-level androgen/estrogen research models — hormone-sensitive tissue studies
Pituitary Sensitivity Reset
Post-anabolic/post-HRT HPG axis reactivation studies using single-dose protocols
Prostate & Hormone-Sensitive Cancer Models
Androgen deprivation, castration-resistant transition, tumour growth modelling
