What is Hydroxychloroquine?
Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is an aminoquinoline derivative that accumulates in lysosomes, raising intra-lysosomal pH and inhibiting lysosomal enzyme activity. Acts as an autophagy flux inhibitor (blocking autolysosome degradation), a TLR7/9 antagonist (blocking endosomal TLR signalling), and a general immune modulator. Research tool for autophagy biology, innate immune pathway studies, and lysosomal function research. Research use only.
Research Applications
Autophagy Inhibition
Lysosomal pH elevation, autolysosome blockade, LC3-II accumulation, p62 buildup
TLR7/9 Signalling
Endosomal toll-like receptor inhibition, IFN-α suppression, innate immune pathway
Lysosomal Biology
Lysosomal alkalisation, cathepsin activity, LAMP1/LAMP2, lysosomal membrane integrity
Immune Modulation Research
Antigen presentation, MHC-II pathway, dendritic cell function, autoimmune models
Cancer Autophagy Research
HCQ as autophagy inhibitor in combination studies — chemo-sensitisation models
