What is Fenbendazole?
Fenbendazole is a broad-spectrum benzimidazole anthelmintic that binds β-tubulin and disrupts microtubule polymerisation — the same mechanism as vinca alkaloids and other antimitotic agents. Increasingly studied for antiproliferative effects in cancer cell lines: disrupts tubulin dynamics, interferes with glucose uptake (GLUT transporter downregulation), and activates p53 pathway. Research tool for microtubule pharmacology, antiparasitic mechanism, and emerging antineoplastic studies. Research use only.
Research Applications
Microtubule Disruption
β-tubulin binding, polymerisation inhibition, mitotic spindle assembly checkpoint
Antiproliferative Research
Cancer cell line studies — G2/M arrest, apoptosis, p53 pathway activation
Glucose Metabolism in Cancer
GLUT transporter downregulation, aerobic glycolysis (Warburg effect) disruption
Antiparasitic Mechanism
Tubulin binding kinetics in helminths, nematode neuromuscular paralysis reference
Drug Repurposing Research
Fenbendazole + conventional chemotherapy combination — in vitro sensitisation models
