What is Alprostadil?
Alprostadil is a synthetic form of Prostaglandin E1 (PGE1). Acts on EP receptors (EP2/EP3/EP4) to stimulate adenylyl cyclase, raise intracellular cAMP, and relax vascular smooth muscle. Studied for penile vascular physiology, peripheral artery disease models, and platelet aggregation inhibition. Research use only.
Research Applications
Vascular Smooth Muscle Research
EP receptor signalling, cAMP cascade, vasodilation assays
Erectile & Penile Physiology
Corpus cavernosum smooth muscle relaxation, haemodynamic models
Peripheral Vascular Research
PAD models, ischaemia-reperfusion, microcirculation studies
Platelet Aggregation
PGE1-mediated platelet cAMP elevation, anti-aggregatory signalling
Pulmonary Hypertension Models
Pulmonary vascular resistance, endothelial function, NO interaction
