What is Thymosin Alpha-1??
Thymosin Alpha-1 (Tα1, CAS 62304-98-7) is a 28-amino acid acetylated N-terminal fragment of prothymosin alpha, first isolated from thymic tissue. Molecular formula C₁₂₉H₂₁₅N₃₃O₅₅, MW 3108.3 g/mol. Tα1 acts on toll-like receptors (TLR2, TLR9) and the STING pathway to upregulate dendritic cell maturation, Th1 cytokine production (IFN-α/γ, IL-2, IL-12), and NK cell activity. It also potentiates vaccine responses and supports T-cell differentiation from thymic precursors — making it the cornerstone research tool for innate/adaptive immune interface studies.
Research Applications
Innate Immune Activation
TLR2/TLR9/STING agonism, dendritic cell maturation, IFN-α/γ production, NF-κB signalling
T-Cell Immunity
Th1 polarisation (IL-2, IL-12), thymopoiesis, CD4+/CD8+ T-cell differentiation, MHC upregulation
NK Cell Function
NK cell cytotoxicity enhancement, NKG2D expression, ADCC potentiation
Vaccine Adjuvancy
Antigen-specific antibody titers, memory T-cell formation, checkpoint expression profiling
Immunodeficiency & Sepsis Models
T-cell exhaustion reversal, innate immune restoration, sepsis immune paralysis models
