What is Raloxifene?
Raloxifene is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) that exhibits tissue-specific estrogen receptor agonist or antagonist activity. It acts as an estrogen antagonist in breast and uterine tissue while functioning as a partial agonist in bone.
Clinically, raloxifene has been used in postmenopausal women for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis and for reducing the risk of invasive breast cancer in certain high-risk populations. Its selective mechanism allows it to provide bone-protective effects without stimulating breast or endometrial tissue in the same way as estrogen.
