What is KPV?
KPV (Lys-Pro-Val) is the biologically active C-terminal tripeptide of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). Despite lacking the melanotropic N-terminal region of α-MSH, KPV retains potent anti-inflammatory activity — acting via MC1R and intracellular mechanisms to suppress NF-κB activation, reduce pro-inflammatory cytokine production, and protect intestinal epithelial barrier integrity. Research use only.
Research Applications
MC1R Anti-Inflammatory Signalling
Receptor-mediated cAMP elevation, NF-κB suppression, cytokine modulation
Intestinal Inflammation Research
Gut epithelial barrier protection, IBD models, tight junction preservation
Intracellular Anti-Inflammatory
Direct nuclear NF-κB inhibition independent of surface receptor — dual mechanism
Skin & Wound Inflammation
Dermal anti-inflammatory activity, keratinocyte cytokine suppression, wound healing
Comparative α-MSH Research
KPV tripeptide vs full-length α-MSH and Melanotan II — receptor selectivity
