What is Ivermectin?
Ivermectin is a macrocyclic lactone derived from Streptomyces avermitilis. Acts on glutamate-gated chloride ion channels (GluCl) in invertebrates — a mechanism absent in vertebrates, conferring selective antiparasitic activity. Additionally studied for antiviral activity (importin α/β nuclear transport inhibition), anti-inflammatory effects, and cancer cell proliferation inhibition. A versatile research compound across parasitology, virology, and oncology. Research use only.
Research Applications
GluCl Channel Pharmacology
Glutamate-gated chloride channel activation, invertebrate neuropharmacology
Antiviral Research
Importin α/β-1 nuclear transport inhibition, viral replication models
Anti-Inflammatory Studies
NF-κB pathway modulation, cytokine suppression, macrophage polarisation
Antiproliferative Research
Cancer cell line studies — cell cycle arrest, apoptosis, WNT/PAK1 pathway
Antiparasitic Mechanism Studies
Nematode GluCl channel electrophysiology, dose-response reference compound
