What is Dermorphin??
Dermorphin (CAS 77614-16-5) is a naturally occurring heptapeptide opioid first isolated from the skin of South American frogs (Phyllomedusa sauvagei). Sequence: H-Tyr-D-Ala-Phe-Gly-Tyr-Pro-Ser-NH₂. Molecular formula C₄₀H₅₀N₈O₁₀, MW 802.88 g/mol. Notably, it contains a D-alanine residue at position 2 — rare in vertebrate peptides — which confers resistance to enzymatic degradation. Dermorphin has approximately 1,000-fold greater potency at µ-opioid receptors (MOR) than morphine in preclinical binding assays, with high selectivity for MOR over δ and κ receptors. It is a fundamental research tool for opioid receptor pharmacology.
Research Applications
