What is Cerebrolysin??
Cerebrolysin is a standardised neuropeptide mixture derived from purified porcine brain tissue via enzymatic proteolysis. It contains low-molecular-weight peptide fragments (MW <10,000 Da, ~25% active peptide fraction) including BDNF-, NGF-, and CNTF-like neurotrophic peptides. In research settings it is investigated for its neurotrophin-mimetic activity — activating TrkB/TrkA signalling, promoting neuronal survival, synaptic plasticity, adult neurogenesis, and reducing amyloid-β and tau pathology in neurodegenerative models.
Research Applications
Neurotrophin Signalling
BDNF/NGF-mimetic TrkA/TrkB activation, PI3K/Akt and MAPK/ERK neuroprotective cascades
Neuroprotection Models
Ischaemic stroke, traumatic brain injury, glutamate excitotoxicity, oxidative stress
Neurodegeneration
Amyloid-β load reduction, tau hyperphosphorylation, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s models
Neurogenesis & Plasticity
Adult hippocampal neurogenesis, synaptic density, dendritic arborisation studies
Cognitive Function
Memory consolidation, spatial learning paradigms, cerebrovascular protection
