What is Humanin 10mg?
Humanin is a 21-amino acid mitochondria-derived peptide (mitopeptide) encoded within the 16S rRNA region of mitochondrial DNA. It is the founding member of the mitochondrial-derived peptide (MDP) family, which also includes MOTS-c and SHLPs. Humanin exerts cytoprotection via gp130/JAK/STAT3 signalling, protects neurons from Alzheimer’s-related amyloid-β toxicity, suppresses apoptosis in multiple cell types, and improves insulin sensitivity. Circulating Humanin levels decline with age, positioning it as a longevity biomarker and therapeutic target.
Research Applications
Neuroprotection & Alzheimer’s Research
Humanin blocks amyloid-β1-42 neuronal toxicity via a mechanism independent of amyloid clearance — relevant to AD research models. Activates gp130 receptor on neurons.
Longevity & Age-Related Decline
Humanin levels decline with ageing in humans and model organisms. Research question: can exogenous Humanin restore cytoprotective signalling associated with longevity? C. elegans and rodent ageing models.
Metabolic & Insulin Sensitivity Research
Humanin improves insulin sensitivity in DIO mouse models and activates AMPK signalling in hepatocytes — links the mitochondrial peptide axis to metabolic disease research.
