What is Prednisone?
Prednisone is a synthetic glucocorticoid prodrug — converted hepatically to active prednisolone. Binds the glucocorticoid receptor (GR) with high affinity, mediating broad anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects via genomic (GRE transactivation/transrepression) and non-genomic pathways. Research tool for GR pharmacology, inflammatory cascade modelling, HPA axis studies, and immunosuppression research. Research use only.
Research Applications
Glucocorticoid Receptor Pharmacology
GR binding, nuclear translocation, GRE-mediated transactivation/transrepression
Anti-Inflammatory Research
NF-κB suppression, AP-1 inhibition, COX-2/PLA2 downregulation, cytokine profiling
HPA Axis Suppression
Cortisol suppression, ACTH feedback, adrenal insufficiency models
Immunosuppression Models
T-cell, B-cell, macrophage suppression — transplant tolerance research
Glucocorticoid-Induced Osteoporosis
Osteoblast suppression, bone turnover markers, fracture risk modelling
