What is LL-37?
LL-37 (Cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide (hCAP-18 C-terminal)) is a 37-amino acid cationic alpha-helical peptide. Human cathelicidin C-terminal domain adopting alpha-helical conformation in membranes. Disrupts bacterial membranes via electrostatic interaction with anionic phospholipids, modulates TLR2/4 signalling to prevent hyperinflammation, promotes wound healing via keratinocyte migration, and exerts antiviral and antifungal activity.
Research Applications
Antimicrobial Mechanism
Membrane disruption against Gram+/Gram- bacteria, biofilm inhibition
TLR Signalling Modulation
TLR2/4 immune balance — pathogen clearance without excess inflammation
Wound Healing
Keratinocyte migration, re-epithelialisation, angiogenesis promotion
Antiviral Activity
Enveloped virus membrane disruption and innate antiviral response
Host Defence Biology
Innate immunity, antimicrobial peptide structure-activity research
