What is Glutathione?

Glutathione (GSH — gamma-glutamylcysteinylglycine (master antioxidant)) is a 3-amino acid tripeptide (Glu-Cys-Gly). Primary intracellular antioxidant tripeptide. Substrate for glutathione peroxidase (GPx) neutralising H₂O₂ and lipid peroxides, participates in protein glutathionylation redox signalling, conjugates electrophilic xenobiotics via glutathione S-transferase for export, and maintains cellular thiol redox balance via the GSH/GSSG ratio.
